Our Story

Until 2004, there were two small supermarkets in Crookwell and a lot of people leaving Crookwell to do their weekly shopping. Crookwell IGA Plus Liquor now employs around 45 staff and has around 7,500 people shop at the store on a weekly basis.

One of the small supermarkets was located in a huge multi purpose department store and another supermarket was located in the back of a chemist shop and run by current part owner Julie White. The plan in 2004 was to close both supermarkets and open a huge 1000sqm supermarket in the existing 80-86 Goulburn Street store. Julie in conjunction with business partners Floyd Davies and Tom Horton took on the challenge to provide Crookwell with a modern well stocked supermarket which would stop the supermarket customer flow out of Crookwell. If this succeeded then other local businesses would reap the rewards, thus keeping other local businesses afloat in Crookwell. At the time country towns were in strife with businesses closing. After four major shop fits and countless changes over the years, Crookwell IGA Plus Liquor now employs around 45 staff and has around 7,500 people shop at the store on a weekly basis.

An award winning supermarket

Crookwell IGA over the years has won countless IGA regional, state and Australian awards in all aspects of the supermarket. It has been runner-up in NSW IGA supermarket of the year and won the prestigious Australian Best IGA Bakery award. The awards are great as they reflect the hard work and dedication of all staff team members who always give 110% on a daily basis. Our best achievements are, that we have created a business that is the biggest private employer in the shire (we are keeping locals employed). Our other achievement that we are most proud of is that we have created a great meeting place for both locals and visitors alike who continually tell us that the shop atmosphere is so warm and inviting. It is our team members from the school kids cleaning the floors to the packers and runners filling our stock to the amazing register team members, that create this atmosphere and we are so very proud of them.

Like all businesses, Crookwell IGA is a continual work in progress, as we keep trying to stay up to date in the changing world of food, making sure that we continue to provide for our customers. Our latest innovation is to bring the store online and provide our customers with the ease of shopping from home or “click & collect” for the time poor customer, if required.
